November 8, 2016: Diabetes Chat: Interactive Patient Education Program

 

Prof. Dr. Scott Lee, Professor of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism, Loma Linda University, California, USA, the guest speaker, led the Interactive Patient Education Program at JDC and spoke on newer technologies in diabetes.  The newer insulin pumps have integrated glucose sensors and sophisticated algorithms to automate insulin delivery in response to fluctuating glucose values. The first-generation artificial pancreas has already revolutionised the treatment since unexpected low sugars are a common cause of death which can be completely prevented with these advanced gadgets. There was active participation and sharing of experiences using pumps during this session. Mr. Sivankutty, ex-MLA inaugurated the diab chat and spoke on the significance of world diabetes day theme and the aggressive efforts on early screening, treatment and prevention of complications.
