Elderly patients living alone with diabetes should be treated with special attention to take care of their individualised requirements. The study considered the specific challenges in the elderly such as psychological issues, loneliness, visual and hearing impairment, financial stress, memory loss, medical emergencies and how to tackle them.

Sunitha Jothydev discussed the research paper related to Kesavadev Trust Type 1 Diabetes Program(KT1DP) Sweet Stars which involved providing free insulin pumps to economically deprived type 1 children in addition to insulin and supplies. The study documented profound improvement in diabetes status. The study also discussed how, unfortunately, a minority of beneficiaries does not realize the huge cost involved when provided completely free of cost and misuse the project and the solutions to overcome this. IDF is the global scientific organization responsible for diabetes treatment guidelines and the authority conducting world diabetes day every year.
