Diabscreen Kerala is a major diabetes awareness project of P.Kesavadev Trust. The Diabscreen Kerala team, headed by Dr. Jothydev Kesavadev, conducts diabetes awareness, prevention, and treatment programs at various geographical locations in collaboration with regional organizations.
An initiative by P.Kesavadev Trust.
Dr. Jothydev Kesavadev, as a member of the Steering Committee of the India Obesity Commission, has contributed to a newly published article in Diabetes & Metabolic Syndrome: Clinical Research & Reviews that introduces a revised definition of obesity for Asian Indians. This new definition is more simplified and focuses on functional status rather than just numerical thresholds. Both Stage 1 and Stage 2 obesity are now defined with a BMI cutoff starting from 23 kg/m². For Stage 2 obesity, the criteria require a BMI exceeding 23 kg/m², along with at least one of the following: excess waist circumference or an elevated waist-to-height ratio, symptoms indicating limitations in daily activities, or the presence of obesity-related diseases. This updated classification aims to improve the identification and management of obesity, considering the unique metabolic risks and health challenges faced by the Indian population.
