Doordharshan - veetuvishesham,Aug 21,05

Live phone in programme in Doordharshan; Re-telecast on Sep 22nd afternoon. Direction by Shri. John Samuel. This Doordharshan health programme is extremely popular and offers the public to directly converse with doctors from various specialties.

One selected question and answer.

Patient: My relative as got type-1 diabetes and is on Mixtard-30/70 injection twice daily. He is taking this injection after food, according to medical advise. But some doctors are advising that this injection should be taken before food. We asked so many people but the opinion is conflicting. What is your advice?

Jothydev: This is a simple question and common mistake. This insulin has to be taken around 30mts before food. It was because of fear of hypoglycemia that previously some groups advised this injection after food. However, new rapid acting analogue insulins are extremely convenient that it can be administered just 5mts before food.
