March 12, 2009: World Kidney day.
Kesavadev trust(Diabscreen Kerala) organised a patient get together and education meet at Jothydev's Diabetes and Research Center. P. Govinda Pillai, veteran Marxist leader and ideologue from Kerala inaugurated the meeting. He shared his own experiences being diabetic for more than 30 years and how to prevent complications of the same. Being a patient of Jothydev for over a decade, he had brought several of his well wishers to him.However 50% of them for want of adhering to a strict protocol of monitoring, diet and exercise left him but most of them over the years required bypass surgeries, dialysis etc. He underscored the importance of laboratory tests for liver, kidney, lipids etc., on a regular basis and treating all risk factors. The World Kidney day message "keep pressure down" was highlighted in the meeting.

The importance of A1c, Blood pressure, tele medicine, Stains etc., were discussed.Various therapeutic options in established CKD, was discussed. Dr.Jothydev Kesavadev lead the discussion. JDC Dietician, Geethu lectured on diet in diabetes and kidney disease which evoked lots of questions from the patients.
