April 18, 2013: World Congress of DiabetesIndia 2013: Inaugural Ceremony
The 5th World Congress of DiabetesIndia was held at Hotel Le Meridian Convention Center, Kochi from April 18-21, 2013. In one of the largest ever held scientific conferences in India, more than 3500 delegates attended the various scientific sessions packed with CME, Orations, Plenary Sessions, Workshops and Debates etc.More than 150 National and 30 International speakers in the field of diabetes served the feast of scientific programs.

The 4 day conference which took place at 5 convention halls of Hotel Le Meridien Convention Center was packed with delegates from all the country and abroad. The poster presentations, pharma stalls etc. were the other highlights of the conference. The convention which met international standards was the result of committed hard work by the Organizing Committee led by Dr. S. M. Sadikot(President – DiabetesIndia),Dr. S. R. Aravind (Scientific Chairman),Dr. Banshi Saboo (Congress Chairman),Dr. Anant Nigam (CEO) & the Organizing secretaries Dr. Jothydev Kesavadev and Dr. Johny Kannampilly(Kochi).

Master of the Inaugural ceremony of the 5th World Congress of DiabetesIndia on 18th April 2013 was Dr.Jothydev Kesavadev. Dr.Johny Kannampilly invited the distinguished guests on dais. The session was unique with the presence of Dr. Jean Claude Mbanya (Past President, International Diabetes Federation), Sir Michael Hirst (President,IDF) and Dr.S.M.Sadikot (President Elect, IDF). The heart and soul of the conference Dr.S.M.Sadikot gave the presidential address followed by Dr.Anant Nigam and Dr.S.R.Aravind. The man behind the conference Dr.Banshi Saboo addressed the gathering. The official inauguration by lighting the lamp was performed by Sir Michael Hirst.

The Congress 'Souvenir and Abstract Book' was unveiled by the distinguished guests on dais. The Souvenir and Abstract Book was brought out by Jothydev's Diabetes & Research Centre. The distinguished guests addressed the delegates and stressed the importance of stopping or at least slowing down the clock of diabetes mortality being the theme of DiabetesIndia 2013. Sir Michael Hirst brought in memories of Ms.Thatcher who prompted him to be part of IDF. The vote of thanks by Dr. Banshi Saboo was followed by faculty dinner for the delegates.
