November 26, 2014: Healthy Breakfast Campaign
The world diabetes month theme for November is focussing on beginning the day with a health breakfast. An awareness program focussing this theme was launched by Miss Indu Thampy and former Miss Kerala and celebrity cine actress. Shri. Sasthamangalam Mohan delivered the key note and S.A Azim, President, Palayam Mosque delivered the messages of healthy living. The program was organised by P.Kesavadev Trust and DiabetesIndia with an aim to promote four messages on healthy eating. 1. Select food rich in fibre, low in fat and proven to prevent rise in sugars, blood pressure and cholesterol 2. Never skip breakfast: skipping the breakfast may cause obesity and diabetes 3. Eat at the right time every day at frequent intervals: both fasting and feasting may be deleterious to health 4. Healthy eating begins with breakfast. Follow the same health pattern throughout the day. The rising epidemic of diabetes in Kerala is attributed to unhealthy food choices and lack of exercise. Even children and adolescents in large numbers are developing diabetes due to unhealthy and untimely food. Skipping the breakfast before rushing to school, tuition, college etc. is another reason for rising prevalence of overweight and diabetes. Dr. Jothydev Kesavadev, Dr. Arun Shankar, Geethu Sanal, Remya Iyer and Jayasree Lally delivered tips on healthy living. Sunitha Jothydev offered vote of thanks.
