Jothydev’s Professional Education Forum (JPEF) and P Kesavadev Trust hosted the 9th Annual Global
Convention 2021 virtually on 9, 10 and 11 July 2021 along with its academic partners DiabetesIndia,
American College of Physicians India Chapter and Indian Medical Association -AMS Nemom.
The 9th JPEF 2021 was designed with the theme, ‘Saving Lives, Making The Impossible Possible!’ in
view of one of the greatest challenges during the pandemic- diabetes. The event evolved realistic
solutions for the same and focused on the management of Covid, post-Covid sequel, Covid and diabetes
and much more. The event presented 5 orations, 7 symposiums, 3 workshops. The CME, marking the 100
years of insulin discovery, sought to outline the momentous advancements that insulin discovery has
contributed to the empirical knowledge about diabetes management.
The 3-day virtual convention touched upon broad scientific sessions including, diabetes and women,
types of diabetes, Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM), insulin, OHAs, newer drugs, expensive
life-saving therapies in diabetes Obesity, diet, Artificial Pancreas, Vaccination, Diabetes
Kidney Disease (DKD), exercise and physical activity, vitamin D, telehealth, Time In Range,
Point of Care, trials in diabetes, diabetes and tuberculosis, hypertension and diabetes,
cardiovascular disease and diabetes, lipid-lowering therapies, rheumatological manifestations in
diabetes, Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD), Gut, Brain and Microbiota, associated
endocrine conditions in diabetes, peripheral vascular disease in diabetes, diabetes and cancer,
Periodontal disease and metabolic syndrome, diabetes and urologic diseases, diabetic retinopathy,
nephropathy, diabetic foot, diabetes erection and dysfunction, and much more, by an admirable
line of faculty from US, Canada, UK, Israel, Egypt, Germany, Slovenia, Australia and across India.
The scientific highlights of the event were lectures by Dr. Sreekumaran Nair, Director Mayo Clinic
Center for Translational Science Activities, Dr. Tadej Battelino, professor of pediatrics at
the Ljubljana Faculty of Medicine, and the head of Department of Pediatric endocrinology,
diabetes and metabolism at the UMC - University Children’s Hospital Ljubljana, Slovenia,
Dr. Pratik Choudhary, Prof of Diabetes, University of Leicester, UK, Dr. Satish Garg, Professor,
Pediatrics-Barbara Davis Center, University of Colorado Hospital, Dr. Hari Parameswaran,
Division of Hematology, Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, USA, Dr. V Mohan, Chennai,
Dr. Anoop Misra, New Delhi and many more covering almost all the areas of diabetes.
The convention also offered a platform for doctors, dietitians, researchers and allied healthcare
professionals to present their original scientific research conducted in the field of diabetes.
Best oral presentations and e-posters were selected and awarded. The award for best oral
presentation was bagged by Dr. Riddhi Dasgupta, for his presentation, ‘Metabolic and metabolic
signature of Covid-19 associated new-onset diabetes (NOD) presenting with diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA):
A prospective study from Eastern India’. The award for the best poster was bagged by Dr. Vishal
Madanlal Chaudhari for his poster, ‘Patient Satisfaction with Teleconsultation in Diabetes Care
during the Pandemic: An Observational Survey’.
JPEF 2021 hosted two challenges for the general public, including the workout challenge and
breakfast challenge which was won by Baby Sahana and Ms. V C Vinaya respectively.
The three-day virtual educational feast with 150 faculty witnessing the participation of
around 12,500 delegates.
