August 10, 2011: KESAVADEV AWARDS
P.Kesavadev Awards 2011 for Literature & Health Education were distributed by the honorable Chief Minister Mr.Oommen Chandy in an auspicious function organized by Kesavadev Trust at Symphony Hall Mascot Hotel, Trivandrum. Each award consisted of INR 15,000, citation and a statute designed by artist B.D.Duttan. Eminent Malayalam novelist C.Radhakrishnan received the award for Literature. Diabscreen Kerala Kesavadev Award for Health Education was for Mr.David Mendosa, world renowed diabetes journalist who lives in Boulder, Colorado. Ms. Rebecca Vitale , 2nd year medical student of Yale University , USA presently a Research trainee at Jothydev's Diabetes Research Centre accepted the Diabscreen Kerala Award on behalf of Mr.Mendosa, who could not make it to India this time.However David Mendosa joined the event live from USA via video conference. Dr. George Onakkur, Chairman of Kesavadev Foundation welcomed the gathering. Dr. Ahamed Pillai , Chairperson of Diabscreen Kerala Award Committee expressed vote of thanks. Mr. Sivankutty MLA offered felicitations. Dr.M.K.Muneer, honorable minister for Social Affairs released Diabetes Awareness video produced by Kesavadev Trust titled 'Diabetes Chat- Mohanlal with Jothydev' by handing over the CD to Mr. Sivankutty MLA.(pl put hyperlink to you tube video for this sentence). Mr. Sivan of Sivan studio, Trivandrum, noted film maker (father of Santhosh Sivan and Sangeeth Sivan) who produced the classic movie 'Swapnam' written by P.Kesavadev was honored at the program by Dr. Muneer. Sreemati Seethalekshmi Dev chaired the session. Dr. Jothydev Kesavadev in his introductory speech described the various activities of Kesavadev Trust which included the completion of more than 400 diabetes awareness camps caring 100s of poor patients with diabetes and a host of other charity ventures. The program came to an end with high tea for the guests.
